The Centre caters for children aged 18 months to pre-schoolers, up to five-years:

Mondays, Wednesdays and/or Thursdays – 3-4 year old program – 9.15 to 2.15pm

Our Team

Under the acknowledged leadership of Bianca, our fully qualified, enthusiastic and experienced team of caring professionals are warm and welcoming. At Sorrento Early Learning, children are nurtured and challenged, and are known for their uniqueness.

Staff members are passionate about providing intentional and personalised early learning programs to positively impact children, setting them up for a positive life-long learning experience.

Multiple Benefits

Being part of a Community Centre enables children and families to gain a sense of belonging – not only to the Centre, but also the broader community.

As registered users of Sorrento Community Centre, families can access the wide range of programs, activities and services on offer. This enables the whole family to learn new skills, extend personal and professional networks, and the opportunity to meet new friends.

The planned program provides a rich, stimulating and intentional educational program where children’s strengths are encouraged and individual learning pathways are respected and celebrated.

Through example and practice, all our work is geared towards assisting children:

  • To develop a spirit of inquiry and to help children understand their world, themselves and their relationships with family, their peers and the wider community.

  • To develop age appropriate social skills – interacting with others, entering play, turn-           taking.

  • To learn developmentally appropriate communication, literacy and numeracy skills and to encourage a love of learning.

Teaching approaches and methodology

We work to facilitate learning through free and guided play, adult led inquiry and direct instruction. An indoor/outdoor program is a feature of our daily approach.

Our programs are guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).

Enrolment and Fees:

As a community not for profit organisation, fees are kept at an affordable level (rates remain unchanged from 2018). To maintain viability, we request that, to ensure your child’s place is secure, fees are pre-paid in full in advance of the first session.

We are not able to offer make-up sessions.  Two weeks’ notice is required if a booking is to be cancelled.

As at April, 2019 The Centre is currently awaiting registration with the Commonwealth Government so that families can access the Government’s Child Care Subsidy. Ref:   Families can apply now through MyGov for their Child Care Subsidy (CCS).

When the Centre’s registration is confirmed, the subsidy will become available for eligible families and fees will be set consistent with the Government’s set fee of $11.77 per hour. Out of pocket fees (the gap) must be paid fortnightly in advance, at the Centre (cash or card), by phone or by EFT.

How to Apply

Please phone Deb, our Early Learning Administrator/Receptionist on 5984 3360, who will be able to answer your immediate questions, show you the Centre and, if required, arrange an appointment out of session time to meet with Bianca, the Team Leader.

  1. Complete an Expression of Interest, indicating your preferred days and times. Return it with a $20 non-refundable registration fee ($10 Annual Centre Registration, $10 administration fee).

  2. When a place becomes available, Deb will call and arrange for you to complete the Enrolment Form for return with a copy of your child’s (downloaded) Immunisation History Statement

  3. Return Form and Statement with a $50.00 refundable deposit. A formal offer of a place will then be made.

  4. Arrangements will then be put in place for a complimentary orientation session, induction, explanation of daily requirements, etc. (as set out in the Family Handbook).

Community Play Group operates tentatively Wednesdays; currently seeking volunteers who will assist in leading this group.

Play Group is a great opportunity for children and their families to enjoy their first experience of learning at Sorrento Community Centre.

Babies, toddlers and pre-school children thrive when they come to make new friends, enjoy new experiences, gain self-confidence and develop physically, culturally, socially, emotionally and intellectually.

Play Group also provides parents, grandparents and carers the opportunity to meet others, swap notes and become part of our community.

Playgroup is supported by a leader. Cost: $5 (pay as you go)

Parent Testimonial

"The Sorrento Community Centre Early Bird Program has truly been such a beautiful, fun and special experience for all of my three children .... and for me too. Bailey, Sophie and Ziggy all learnt so many incredible things in all areas including oral skills, fun-filled outdoor play, gorgeous songs and dances, and creating special pieces of artwork that I will always treasure. Also so many sweet little friends. The Early Bird 3-Year-Old Program has been the best introduction to kinder for all my children. " Brooke G. 2017
