Updates from the Manager 27th January 2017
We hope you enjoy the great summer programme! Members re-enrolling only need to complete a simple form, provided their contact details have not changed. The lovely Sarah Chen still on their L-plates and being trains our Volunteers this week. We are also able to offer you support and advice about local organisations and services or take you on a tour of the building.
Glenice, Margot, Clare, Brian, Pauline, Veronica and Sue are committed to the community and there to assist you.
The Stadium floor is being re-sanded and nearing completion. We will be purchasing new portable soccer nets for our Soccer Blokes who play on Wednesday nights. Thank you to the Council for this upgrade of the stadium.
We anticipate completion by the 6th February.
ROTARY ART SHOW Was a great success this year and the new floor in the stadium make it a perfect venue to hire for an exhibition – perhaps you have an idea and need a space to hire? The centre is a great facility for community use.
The Sorrento Community Centre Writers held a book launch in December in the meeting space that showcased works and was a wonderful evening. A great summer read Shorelines is available on line.
“From humble beginnings the local Community Centre gathered together the keen writers. After a workshop provided by the effervescent published author, June Loves, they each gained confidence and momentum. Within 18 months they found themselves with finished books ready to publish.
After attempting to unravel the complexities of the traditional publishing world, they realised there may be an alternative and decided to just 'do it themselves'. Thus was born ‘Lighthouse Publishing’.
Enjoy these short stories with a coastal overtone with contributions from each of the members of the Sorrento Community Centre Writers Group.”
A new team of Early Childhood Educators joins us this year. Come along and meet Bianca Marianne, Jackie and Pam at 1pm on Thursday 2nd February. The room has been freshly painted, thanks to Gary and the team of volunteers, Brian, Veronica and Terry. The storage shed that was built by the community with funds raised at our charity golf day is a welcome asset to store our outside equipment. A big thank-you to Judy, Lino and Nick from 3 degrees and to the many volunteers involved. The room looks fresh and inviting and the space re-organised thanks to Judy and Helen that will be enjoyed by the children in Playgroup and the Early Learning sessions. Some places are available, contact 5984 360
Self Help and led groups
Most groups have volunteers that send out emails re upcoming events through reception, sometimes there are glitches with email addresses, we use Mail Chimp for the larger email groups so you may need to check your “Junk” folders occasionally. If you require a posted copy there will be a surcharge of $5 per year to help cover costs. You are most welcome to call in to collect a copy at no charge.
