Join us for our regular social catch ups, a quick update on the Shed and a chance to share ideas for going forward
We held a very positive first meeting and active group with a few interesting projects on the go.
Future Guest Speakers/Topics Some suggestions already on the list are :
May 3rd: "Repair Cafe" - a worldwide initiative for handymen to repair/fix rather than add to the landfill. (Terry Phippen)
May 10th: "My motor racing experience" and an opportunity to share your own car restoration project. (John Stevenson)
May 17th: "My flying experience" - I get paid to do what I love - flying. (Tony)
May 24th: "Amazing practical woodwork projects" - using computer technology (CNC) to create wonderful products. (anyone who could answer the request above!!)
The meetings will also direct us to what activities members would like to be involved in, as tutor or student.
Because we have access to facilities at the SCC, some activities can be started right away. Others may have to wait for our own purpose-built Shed or taking up invitations to engage at the other local established Men's Sheds.
We will be looking for a gold coin donation at these meetings which will be held as PNMS funds at the SCC.
For those members who have not already signed up as SCC members, there is a form to complete (no online option yet) and a request for a $10 registration charge. This registration makes you a member of the SCC and the right to apply to join any SCC activity at the Centre.
Men's Health Week scheduled for June 11th thru June 15th.
We have been asked to "Save the Date" for an organised day with the other Men's Sheds. Invitation from the Shire co-ordinator:-
Could you please save the date Friday 15 June in your diaries and advise all your shed members and male friends to save the date to support this national week in recognition of the importance of Men’s Health.
Event: Men's Health Fest "healthy body - healthy mind”
Location: Mornington Civic Reserve 350 Dunns Road, Mornington
Date: Friday 15 June 2018, Time: 10.00am – 1.00pm
More detail to follow. We’re in the midst of organising the event with the support of Belgravia Leisure and the Shire Health & Wellbeing Officer Kate Hills.
Some of the members are going to the Safety Beach / Dromana Men's Shed at 9:00 Thursday, May 10th, to check out the size and fitout of the Shed. This could give us a guide as to what might be needed for our Shed.
For the Engineers:
I have been sent CAD drawings and tips for the construction of the amazing clock I saw at the Mornington Men's Shed. Just a thought but the Community Centre could do with some clocks!!
Please let Terry know if you have a Clayton Boyer lathe in your garage!!!
PNMS members: There is a session held every Tuesday between 9:30 and 12:00 at the Community Centre. It's an opportunity for people to come in with their device (phone, tablet, laptop) and discuss issues they are experiencing.
We are inviting anyone who would sit in as a "tutor" to please let us know, as your experience/knowledge would be a huge help.
Update from Council on the Hangar:
"Your organisation has been listed as an interested party for the premises. Should Council determine to offer a lease for the site, you will be invited to make a submission. We anticipate that the Council will invite submissions in the next 4-6 months.
As we have stated in the notes above, we are looking at alternative sites that have been mentioned amongst the group.
Including some initial comment/approaches, we have made to the Shire re. the Men's Shed (when we were calling ourselves the "Sorrento Men's shed"):-
